🔜 Volunteers Wanted – Oughtrington Luncheon Club Needs You! 👨‍🍳🙋🙋‍♂️🍽️✨

After many years of dedicated service to the local community Derek Ridpath and Phyllis Greenough have decided to retire from running Oughtrington Community Centre’s Luncheon Club.

The Luncheon Club has been serving the community for nearly four decades, providing close to 4,000 opportunities for hot meals, fun activities and a much-appreciated space to socialise for elderly, vulnerable and isolated people in Lymm, Oughtrington & Heatley, twice a week.

The Trustees of Oughtrington Community Centre are very keen to see the Luncheon Club continue operating for many years to come. In order to ensure that Luncheon Club can best cater for the needs of the community, we will shortly be holding a consultation with the Luncheon Club’s clients, their relatives and carers and the wider community.

⭐️ We’ll be asking what the Luncheon Club means to them and how it might further enhance its services. As part of this work, we are also investing in improving the health, safety and welfare of the Luncheon Club’s clients and volunteers.

📋To continue to run the Luncheon Club, we will shortly need new volunteers to fill Derek and Phyllis’s shoes, along with any new roles that we might identify during the consultation. At this time we can’t precisely define these roles, though Head Cook and Manager are a good start. These roles could be split and shared amongst a number of volunteers.

For now, we are asking for expressions of interest in volunteering with the Luncheon Club. More information and volunteer role descriptions will be advertised once they have been defined.

🆕 📰 Our June 2023 OCC Members Newsletter is here. Grabs your crumpets + cuppa, folks — and settle yourselves in!👇

It’s just over 7-weeks since you elected a new Board of Trustees to run Oughtrington Community Centre on your behalf. This Newsletter (which many of you will have received by now) is an update on what we have achieved so far, OCC plans for the near future and also our longer term plans and aims.

🗳️ Since our election, we’ve been busy! We have had to organise new Bank Accounts, register all new Trustees/Directors with both The Charities Commission and Companies House and ensure compliance with other legal requirements applicable to our new positions. This will have all been achieved by the time you read this Newsletter. 🙌

We have also commissioned a full review of Health & Safety procedures and compliances, which is now an ongoing process.

In the near future our plans:-

📦 Clearing the Centre of goods and materials accumulated over a number of years by various groups who use the Centre to free up space which could be used for other community activities to provide income for longer term plans.

🧼 A bit of OCC T.L.C. with a thorough Spring (o.k. Summer ) Clean to improve the appearance, internally and externally, of the Community Centre. Tasks such as wiping down/cleaning walls/doors/woodwork etc., cleaning carpets (some needing replacement), sanding and sealing of main hall floor, cleaning windows, jet washing external areas, general (small) maintenance tasks, painting & decorating etc. will be needed.

Sharing a few “behind-the-scenes” pics from the making of Oughtrington Pre-School + Luncheon Club’s joint @lymmfestival 2023 Scarecrow Trail entry.

After deciding to become involved in the Lymm Festival 2023 Scarecrow Trail, a fun-filled joint entry by the Children of Oughtrington Pre-School and Clients of Oughtrington Luncheon Club was submitted for onlookers to delight in, as they follow the scarecrow festivities.

The theme: “Bill, Ben and Weed — Bridging the Generations” was adopted, reflecting the age range of those involved.

The Children from Pre-School popped into Luncheon Club during their twice weekly meetings to work together on building the characters. These ranged from ‘youngsters’ now sitting in the wheelbarrow outside pre-school, ‘teenagers’ in the centre of the front garden to a couple of ‘elderly’ adorning the notice board. We hope you get chance to come and see our efforts and hope you enjoy them while they are on display until 2nd July at Oughtrington Community Centre.
